A Note from the Teacher...

Hello! My name is Anna Schweitz, and I am honored to be joining the amazing staff here at Longwood, thrilled to become a part of such an outstanding district and community where the importance of the arts in our schools is highly recognized, and so excited to be working with your wonderful little lions! I graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb with violin as my primary instrument, and voice as my secondary. I grew up on a farm in a very small rural community.

Needless to say, life in Naperville is a bit different! I play in a string trio with my parents, and also enjoy performing on piano and voice. In my spare time, I enjoy exercising, reading, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and all things
musical: practicing it, reading about it, listening to it, attending it, and performing it! I am looking forward to a wonderful school year and the chance to meet you all!

Extracurricular Activities

Along with the Longwood Band and Orchestra programs (not taught by me!), we have a chorus, “The Singing Lions of Longwood.” Our chorus rehearses once a week for one hour before school. The chorus studies a variety of repertoire-many different styles, genres, cultures, languages, etc. We also study proper and healthy vocal technique, singing in unison (all are singing the same part at the same time), singing in rounds and canons (singing the same part, but starting at different times), singing partner songs (2 different melodies sung together), and singing 2-part harmony (may be singing the same words and rhythms, but on different pitches). Also, there will hopefully be opportunities for the chorus to perform in the community, outside of the school setting.
