Longwood Volunteer is IPSD Volunteer of the Month
Congratulations to Longwood parent June Thomson who received the IPSD Volunteer of the Month award. We are grateful for all she does to make our school a better place. The press release is below:
"The BMO Harris Bank District 204 Volunteer of the Month is being awarded to June Thomson from Longwood Elementary School.
June’s son, James, is in 5th grade and June has been an active volunteer since he was in kindergarten. June spends so much time at Longwood, you would think she’s a staff member! She is a PTA board member, LMC volunteer, organizes meals for staff during parent-teacher conferences, plans school parties, manages the school’s spirit wear and so much more.
But what June is most known for is her amazing photography skills and putting together the school yearbook. June is at Longwood to photograph all events, grade-level parties, author visits, field days, school-wide assemblies, Red Ribbon week, concerts, family nights – you name it and June is there. June doesn’t look at the yearbook as a “yearbook,” but as a memory album for at least 350 students and their families. “When I see smiling faces from students and adults, I feel good knowing I’ve created something they will be able to look back at in a few years and remember their time spent at Longwood,” June says.
One of her nominations said “Every school needs a June Thompson!” Although June started volunteering to support her son in Kindergarten, it didn’t take long for her to realize that volunteering to do the little things gave the teachers and staff more time to focus on all the students.
BMO Harris Bank is helping District 204 recognize one volunteer each month who has generously given his or her time to support District 204’s students and schools. To celebrate these outstanding volunteers, BMO Harris Bank is donating $1,000 to the volunteer’s school. To nominate and outstanding volunteer, visit Volunteer of the Month."
